Sallie Mae is the DEVIL!

Let me preface this by saying that at least they gave me loans to begin with. Without those I wouldn't be where I am today. However, they really really really suck!!

Okay, backtrack to April 26th. My mom calls me hysterical about how Sallie Mae has been calling her all day long and harassing her. She says they want her to give them my phone number and my social security number- which she smartly refuses, as I'd been getting a lot of calls from people phishing for my personal information. I tell her to calm down, I will call them the next day and figure out what's going on. So I call, and they tell me that I'm a month behind in my student loan payments. This is all news to me because I wasn't told when to start paying them. I asked if they would send me the payment coupon booklet (like allllll my other student loans have) and am told that they don't do booklets; they send out three slips at a time. Fine, whatever. They want me to update my address; I tell them it hasn't changed in two years and that they have the current address. We argue for a few minutes, and I finally am able convince them that what they have is current.

Get a call the following week from my mother. They have started calling her again and harassing her. I call Sallie Mae back, where they tell me I have to make a payment over the phone immediately. I tell them that I haven't received the coupon booklet yet, so I can't send them the check. This chick, who incidentally has the manners of a prison inmate on death row, refuses. She says they won't send the coupon booklet until my account is brought current. (So you won't tell me how much to pay or when, but you want it RIGHT NOW... love their logic!) They tell me I can pay it over the phone and that will bring my account current. I'm like, fine whatever, so they transfer me over to the other department that actually takes the payments. The give me the total, and I do a quick calculation in my head and say, "That's not right." Response, "Well there's a $10 fee for payments made over the phone." "What?????" So I pay for two months plus their shitty $10 fee and get on with life. I tell them that in the future they need to contact me to get payments, not my mother, regardless of whether or not she co-signed on the loans. I get my payment slips and I pay my loans on time every month, blah blah blah.

Fast forward back to today, November 15th. 5 months later. My mother calls my cell phone and leaves a voicemail asking me to call her back. I call her back and she says that Sallie Mae has been calling her non-stop all day long. She stopped answering and they get to the answering machine and hang up. Awesome. She refuses to give them any information.

They call me at 3:30 pm, and I answer and say, "Why are you calling my mother and not me?" They tell me they've been calling me all day. "Haha," I say, "No you haven't, because I just looked at my call log, and there are NO calls from you whatsoever."
Sallie Mae (SM): "Well we tried to get a hold of you and we tried to speak to your mother, but she was irate. No idea why."
Me: "What is this about?"
SM: "There is a late fee of $5.40 due on your account."
Me: "So you've been calling my mother all day long and harassing for $5.40 and you don't understand why she's upset?"
SM: "That's not harassment."
Me: (rather than get in an argument with someone who is obviously a moron) "What is this late fee from?"
SM: "Your account was a month behind in April so there is a late fee of $5.40."
Me: "If this is from April, why are you JUST NOW telling me about it? Why didn't you put it on the paperwork you sent me in July?"
SM: "Well the notes here show that we mailed something out on the 4th."
Me: "Of July?" (Honestly, who works on the 4th of July other than retail???)
SM: "No, the 4th of this month."
Me: "This month being November. I am asking about July."
SM: "Well I don't know about that, this is the first time I've looked at this account." (Of course.)

So I pay the GD $5.40 because I don't have the energy to get into an argument with them about this. (Especially since I'm at work, and supposed to try and get this drawing out tonight, which won't happen. )

Ladies and Gentlemen, I don't care if you have to whore yourselves out to pay for college- DO NOT GET STUDENT LOANS THROUGH SALLIE MAE!!!!!!!

Excuse my rant... I just needed to vent a little bit...

Just wanted to vent also...

Same as you, except they disabled my online account because my payment was 21 days past due (not even a month.) i went to pay today and I can't log-in. I call the 888 number and they tell me I have to make a payment over the phone to re-enable my online account.

Basically, I could have paid without any fees online, but they are forcing me to pay the $10 bull shit fee.

F U Sallie Mae!!!!

I find you blog very interesting. Although, the company has a good profile, some of its clients are still dissatisfied either with the conditions offered by the company or the level of services. The representatives of the company also tend to come to people’s homes and demand the payment of the debt. Sometimes, they may even send police. On the www.pissedconsumer.com you may find even more customer feedbacks about the company.
